History
From 1985-1989, Scot Zellman produced a comic strip called "Potshots" for the Ohio State University Lantern (student newspaper). As an undergrad, I enjoyed this strip immensely. It was very popular, as was Zellman who parlayed his fame into the presidency of the student government, if I recall correctly.
One of my favorite recurring characters in Potshots was Cletus Buckeye, the younger brother of the more famous OSU mascot, Brutus Buckeye.
I've always had a secret fantasy of creating a Cletus Buckeye costume and going to the games. Wouldn't that be awesome? Well, maybe someone could at least do a statue version for the Brutus on Parade project.
At the end of my undergrad years, I purchased Zellman's book of Potshots comics and I still have it today. So in honor of Brutus Buckeye's induction into the Mascot Hall of Fame (and the #1 OSU Football team), here are some comics that feature the origin and legend of Cletus Buckeye.
